What are the additional categories available with Copernic Agent Personal/Professional?

The commercial versions, Copernic Agent Personal and Copernic Agent Professional, offer some 125 categories, giving you access to more than 1000 search engines.

Can I add search engines myself in Copernic Agent?

Copernic Agent Personal or Copernic Agent Professional offer a great feature that allows you to create your own categories based on information sources already accessible via the software. You can create custom search engine categories by including complete categories, particular search engines or combinations of categories and engines. It is not possible to add or customize search engines yourself in Copernic Agent; if a search engine that interest you is not already consulted by Copernic then we invite you to submit it using this Web form.

By default, the software your purchase is an electronic copy. Unless you specifically order a CD, which involves an extra charge, you will get an electronic version, implying that you will have to download the software.

If you order online, you have the option of buying a Backup CD. Note: Backup CDs are sent through standard mail and can take up to eight (8) weeks for delivery

What happened to Copernic 99 for Macintosh?

The management of Copernic regretfully decided to cease developing products for the Mac OS platform. Copernic unfortunately no longer provides technical support for Macintosh versions of Copernic 99 and Copernic 99 Plus.

Users who purchased Copernic 99 Plus for Macintosh after July 1, 2000 will be refunded upon request. Simply contact customer service in order to benefit from this offer.

I would like my site to be found by Copernic Agent. What must I do to make this happen?

We do not offer Web site submission services. You will need to submit your Web site to each search engine manually by accessing each search engine's Web site. It is also possible to find services on the Internet that can add your Web site to various search engines.

How can I find out if additional engines are available for Copernic Agent Personal/Professional? How do I download and install them?

It's very fast and simple. From the Tools menu, click Install available categories. Then, make your choice by selecting the appropriate category and follow the simple instructions given during the process. Installation will take place automatically.

What are the minimum system requirements for installing Copernic Agent?

Operating System: Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP with Internet Explorer 4.0 SP1 (or later)
Browser: Internet Explorer 4.0, Netscape Navigator/Communicator 4.x or 6.x, Opera, the system default browser or another compatible browser
CPU: Pentium 120 MHz or higher
RAM: 32 MB (minimum)
Hard Disk: At least 15 MB of free disk space

I downloaded Copernic, but I can't remember where I saved it. How can I find it?

If you do not know where you downloaded the file on your hard disk, on the taskbar, click the Start button, then click Search and type Copernicagent*.exe in the search box. Then double-click the appropriate file and follow the on-screen instructions.

After Copernic has been downloaded, how do I make it run?

After Copernic Agent has been downloaded, double-click the installation program and follow the on-screen instructions. If you do not know where you downloaded the file on your hard disk, on the taskbar, click the Start button, then click Search and type Copernicagent*.exe in the search box. Then double-click the appropriate file and follow the on-screen instructions.

The installation procedure creates an icon on your Windows desktop. This is the main Copernic Agent program. Just click it to launch the software. You are now ready for your first search. Double-click a category or enter your search keywords in the Quick Search field, and then click either the magnifying glass or the Search button.

N.B.: Copernic runs automatically after the installation procedure.

I am trying to install Copernic Agent and it asks me for a serial number. Where do I find this serial number?

After your purchase, you normally receive an e-mail showing your serial number. If you didn't receive this message, then it is possible to retrieve your serial number with this Web form. If ever your serial number isn't found by our form, do not worry; you will receive an e-mail telling you who to contact and what information to provide. Our customer service representatives will help you find it.

I installed my copy of Copernic Agent Personal/Professional, Can I uninstall my previous Copernic installation now?

We recommend that you first verify if your searches have been transferred properly. If so, you can remove your previous version without any problem. We advise that you uninstall Copernic using the Add/Remove programs feature from the Windows Control Panel.

No, you do not need to pay twice. If you need to redownload your Copernic software, go to the Re-Downloading Our Products page.

Is it possible to change the language of the Copernic Agent user interface?

Though it is not possible to modify the language from the program itself, you can download a different language version of the software from our Web site and install it. Copernic Agent family products are available in English, French, German or Spanish.

If you want to download a different language version of Copernic Agent Personal or Copernic Agent Professional, go to the Re-Downloading Our Products page to receive the appropriate link. If you require a different language version of Copernic Agent Basic (the free version of Copernic Agent), redownload it from the Thank you for choosing Copernic Agent! page.

Whichever product you want to download, make sure that the language version is appropriately selected before initiating the download.

I would like to change the look and feel of Copernic Agent. Is it possible to add skins, as with Copernic 2001?

No, but Copernic Agent allows extensive customization of menus and toolbars by adding, removing and rearranging buttons and items, creating custom toolbars, renaming commands and using many other related options. We invite you to read about "Customizing Menus & Toolbars". We thought that concentrating our development efforts on customization rather than continuing to offer skins would be more profitable for our users.

TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS

I would like to receive more than 10 results per search engines. May I modify this value?

Yes, you can easily modify this value. From the Tools menu, click Organize Categories and replace the value 10 by a higher one (default value: 10; maximum possible: Basic - 300, Personal - 500; Professional - 700).

How may I customize Copernic Agent so that it always loads a browser other than Internet Explorer or another default browser?

From the Tools menu, click Options. Then go to the Integration / Default Browser section and select Use an alternate browser.

Can I use Netscape with Copernic Agent?

From the Tools menu, click Options. Then go to the Integration / Default Browser section and select the Use Netscape Navigator/Communicator 4.x or 6.x option; or, you can also select the Use an alternate browser option.

Does Copernic Agent work with Opera?

Copernic Agent also works with the Opera browser.

When I click the "Search" button on the Internet Explorer toolbar, the Copernic Search pane appears. How do I replace this pane with my browser's original Search pane?

First, close Internet Explorer. Then, in Copernic Agent, from the Tools menu, click Options. Then go to the Integration / Internet Explorer section. Clear the check box next to Replace the browser Search bar option, and then click OK.

Can I disable the display of advertisement banners in Copernic Agent?

The display of advertisement banners in Copernic Agent is integrated in the software. However, this function is disabled in Copernic Agent Personal/Professional.

TROUBLESHOOTING

I need to re-enter my Copernic Agent registration number, but I have lost it. What should I do?

When I try to install Copernic Agent, I receive an error message saying that the file I just downloaded ".is not a valid Win 32 application". What should I do?

Here are different possible operations:

  • You can try to delete files in your \Windows\Temp folder (by default, this is C:\Windows\Temp or C:\Winnt\Temp), reboot your computer, close all your programs and try again.
  • You can try to redownload Copernic with another browser, if this is possible. We recommend that you save the file to your hard drive instead of executing the file from its current location.

Why does Copernic Agent sometimes not use all search engines of the selected category when I make a search?

You are probably making your search using the "exact phrase" mode. Unfortunately, certain search engines do not offer this function. In that case, Copernic Agent only queries the search engines that support quotation marks (" ").

The "Send by e-mail" feature in Copernic Agent does not operate on my system. How can fix this?

Here are some tips that will help you:

  • Make sure you indicated the right SMTP server address. Contact your Internet Service provider or your network administrator if you do not have this information.
  • If you need to authenticate yourself, click the Advanced. button and make sure to type your username and password properly (case sensitive).
  • If you haven't tried it already, maybe you need to use a MAPI instead of an SMTP server. Please try this option and send a test e-mail to see if it works.

Does the Microsoft IntelliMouse wheel work with Copernic Agent?

Yes. If your mouse wheel does not work correctly with Copernic Agent, you should update your mouse driver. Download the latest driver from the Microsoft Web site.
